I was walking through Home Depot today looking for things. I didn’t talk to many people and actually felt for a while that I was being stalked by the employees as a potential shoplifter. It was because I was meandering around looking for weird theme gifts for some friends. I thought it was amusing that I would thought of a shoplifter. That someone would look at me and how I was acting (wandering around the store with headphones on mumbling to myself) and think, “he might be trying to steal from us.”
Jesus left his disciples in a very interesting position when he said, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35) It implied that there would be an observable quality to be a follower of Jesus. That not only a few people, but everyone might able to observe the depth and quality of our relationships and know we are disciples.
Thats why we talk a lot about relationships around here. Because, they won’t know us by our correct thinking. They won’t know us by our crooked finger of condemnation. They won’t know for how happy we seem to be. They will know us for how we love one another.
I’d better get working on that.
