“He must increase, but I must decrease.” [John 3v30]
John the Baptist had a thriving ministry around the turn of the millennium. He was very popular and definitely a counter-cultural phenom in his day. We’ll probably forgot Lady Gaga’s look in a few years but John’s gear is still talked about. And he was eating free range and organic long before it was hip.
But what made John exceptional was not his look or charisma. It was that he knew clearly his place in God’s unfolding Story. John embraced his role as the opening act for someone much more exciting. And he did his job with style!
In what ways can we decrease (make ourselves less) so that Christ can increase? What can give, do or be that would encourage the world around us to see more of Him?
