“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. [John 12v12]
There’s a progressive nature to things that is seen clearly in our most popular arenas. Like in the world of sports–we often compare this generation’s athletes with those of the past, and we see that people are getting faster, stronger and more capable.
For example, a record setting sprinter in 1912 wouldn’t earn a place at all in today’s top races.
We can credit advances in technology, nutrition and training, but a big factor is that each generation learns from the previous and pushes those physical boundaries of what’s possible.
Spiritually speaking, this mirrors what Jesus had in mind for His disciples. While He healed many and taught the Kingdom with such passion, He invested His Holy Spirit here among us, so that each generation would take their place, learning from those in the past, and going on to greater achievements.
Are you operating out of the power of the Holy Spirit? Are you keeping a healthy training regimen so that you are ready to go farther and faster than those who walked before you?
