If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. [John 12v26]
Much of our approach to faith can be about ourselves. Think about it. How much of our prayers are focused on “making our requests known”?
What about the promise of our heavenly reward? Are we counting on living an eternal life in the future? Or are we seeking to live it out now?
In the last chapters of the Story, in the book of Revelation, we are shown only glimpses of what life will be like for us in the new heaven on earth. We are told that we will serve and reign.
Other religions make the promises of heaven seem like all-inclusive resorts. All we have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the good life forever. Why does The Story suggest that we will equally be serving and reigning?
Because in God’s vision for restored community, everything is shared. There’s equal parts liberty and responsibility. That’s what’s so exciting about our God. He could do it all Himself but instead He invites His people (us) to be a part of it. To reign with Him forever!
