“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” [John 9v5]
Its hard to tell sometimes, but the church in North America is shrinking. More young adults, especially, have bought into the lie that being part of a local church community is not an essential part of growing in our walk with Christ.
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am also.” (Matthew 18:20)
He’s talking there about friendship. Genuine, purposeful friendship that is dedicated to loving as He commanded and hopeful in encouraging each other to live fully for Him. This is the idea behind gathering “in His name.” It means that we are together for purposes of making Jesus known to and through our friendships.
This is how we bring His light into our communities; by being a part of that kind of friendships through the expression of the local church. In this way, He is in us and we serve as His light.
Today, ask yourself: Are my friendships real? Am I connected with others in a way that we represent Christ to each other? Would others around you look at your closest relationships and say, “I see Christ in that”?
If not, what will you do to take steps to change this?
