After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the Twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” [John 6vs66-69]
How many of us edit our copy of the Bible? Like actually take a marker and black out parts we don’t like or even tear out a couple of pages? Not many, I’d guess, have taken it that far but would we confess to ignoring some words of Jesus that seem challenging or hard to accept?
Like, “Blessed are you when people hate you”? Or, “Whomever doesn’t hate his father and mother, brother and sister, even his own life, cannot be my disciple”? What about, “If you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive you”? Or the classic, “It would be better to lose your eye or hand than to go on sinning”?
Jesus said hard things, but we can’t just ignore them. We can study them and listen to the whispers of the Spirit who is with us to help us be able to apply our lives to His teachings.
Remember, there is life in His words.
